The wax allows the screw to pass through the carpet without causing any damage. The kit comes with a tripod fixture and driver bit that drive the screw though the carpet and stop the screw at the point the score or weak spot is slightly below the wood. The with the tripod fixture we snap the head of the screw off. This leaves the screw to stop the movement and squeaks without having anything sticking up that you could feel with your foot. The Squeak -Ender tool fastens the floor down tight to the joist from below the floor. The anchor plate and hanger bolt attaches to the floor next to the joist, in the spot the floor is squeaking. Next you slide the joist bracket around the bottom of the joist. Then place the washer and hex nut on the bolt and tighten the nut down. This will pull the floor down tight stopping the movement and squeaks. The only tools you need are a phillips screw driver and an adjustable wrench.
